DevOps Isn’t a Department With Jeremy Duvall

DevOps Isn’t a Department With Jeremy Duvall

DevOps is not a department. It's a set of concepts and ideas that are human-centric and driven through Agile practices. It's applying Big A Agile to operations: fast feedback loops, deeper collaboration with stakeholders (which is the engineering team), and invoking people over process and tools. A current problem hamstringing organizations is that they treat DevOps like a commoditized department: one that writes shell scripts and deploys Jenkins servers, and not the value engine that those teams could be. They took the tools team, applied a light version of DevOps ideology, and said, "Hey, that's it. That's DevOps. Hashtag winning."

    Runtime Analysis With Brian Kelly

    Runtime Analysis With Brian Kelly

Most developers are familiar with two sources of data about their applications: 1) static code analysis, and 2) observability tools monitoring their system in production. However, a new data source is gaining popularity: Runtime analysis. Runtime analysis is a technique where an application's dynamic behavior is recorded and analyzed during development time, allowing flaws and other insights to be revealed before that code is deployed to production.

You don't know what you're missing!

I have a strange place in this world. I'm not in the tech sector - but I want to move there. I am a nurse. I will admit I've been around as long as technology (not really, but I was born in the early 70s). I've seen some sh!$, and I was taught years ago (before the advent of windows) to disassemble and reassemble hardware. I know about tape drives and rooms with climate control. I have progressed with technology and I genuinely believe that what happens in tech innovation also happens in other parts of the world. This does not stop me from being a nurse - but I recongize there is a world bigger than me out there. Arrested DevOps has helped me really embrace these things in ways I never expected. For instance, I could tell Max Stratton that I'm a SysAdmin at heart. He'd probably say Bull Sh!t, but in the best possible way! I started listening to episodes from #1, but about 2 years in, I fast forwarded to present and started to work my way back. I look at the early episodes as "historical documents" and they are invaluable. I am looking to move into some sort of tech sphere (I have a Masters of Nursing in Informatics, though I have only worked directly with patients). For me, the information expands how I currently view the world (as one where siloes need to be removed) and where practice meets theory. Whether you are in healthcare or strictly IT - this podcast is gold.

I spose the one good thing about listening to this podcast is that you don’t have to go to first week of sxsw to meet incompetent tech workers, you can just listen to them here.
